Facebook Visits Surpass Google As The Most Visited Domain, But Is It A Game Changer?
Facebook overtook Google to become the most popular site in the US during the week ending March 13th, according to market research group Experian Hitwise. Only during Christmas Eve and Christmas Day did Facebook overtake Google but it wasn’t for an entire week. This is a big milestone, but what does it really mean?
Google’s attempt to enter the social networking arena with its launch of Google Buzz hasn’t gained much traction either. Google received criticism right from the start because of the service’s privacy related “auto-follow” feature. Google has since revised the feature and renamed it “auto-suggest” and continues to make major changes to the service.
So, what is reality? Is it Facebook’s new home page design? Is it that users are becoming more comfortable with searching on Facebook, as if they were on Google?
It makes you wonder if there is a loyalty factor involved. The “subscription” attributes of Facebook seem to be making a difference. For example, Google News doesn’t allow one to “subscribe”, so there is little need to go back to Google… I guess unless you “Become a Fan” of Google on Facebook.
What do you think about this?
